Mr Devlin had pled guilty to causing the death of Ms Miller from Dumfries by dangerous driving after a crash in East Ayrshire in March 2018. He also pled guilty to a number of other driving charges such as failing to stop, driving without insurance and not displaying ‘L’ plates. Mr Devlin has been sentenced to six years imprisonment. He was also banned from driving for 8 years.
Mr Devlin who did not hold a full UK Licence dangerously overtook two cars before crashing in to the car Ms Miller was in. It was heard in Glasgow High Court how Mr Devlin had bought the car in question the day of the crash for £100.00. Mr Devlin then ran off later stating “Everything was just a big blur.” Lord Burns who sentenced Mr Devlin address him stating:”You drove in what you accept was a dangerous fashion for a substantial period…This is a most serious offence a flagrant disregard for the rules of the road and the great danger caused to others.” Mr Devlin’s defence Counsel stated: “He expresses his profound remorse for his actions on that night.”
