Dr Manesh Gill was found guilty and imprisoned for four years for the rape of a woman he met on tinder. 

The court heard that the married doctor had set up a profile on tinder under the name of ‘Mike’. A woman he had been communicating with agreed to meet up with him at the Golden Lion Hotel in Stirling. 

He convinced the victim to attend his room by pretending that the public toilets were out of order. After drinking in the bedroom the victim began going in and out of consciousness. 

The victim told the court: “He was on top of me. I was trying to push him off. I couldn’t.

I just felt like my whole body was stuck to the bed. He was having sex with me. I wanted to go home. I felt as if I couldn’t move. I couldn’t do anything,” 

She eventually managed to get up and went to the bathroom. She said: “I came out of the bathroom and said ‘I know what you’ve been doing to me’. After leaving the hotel she contacted police.

The jury found him guilty of raping the women whilst she was incapable of controlling her movement of providing consent. 

Gill was sentenced to four years imprisonment and his name was added to the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely. Lord Tyre told Gill: “You have no criminal record and you have clearly been a valued member of the medical profession.”

But the judge said he was in “no doubt” that the gravity of the offence could only be marked by a custodial sentence.
