Maria Gardiner, Michael Anderson and James Houston appeared in Glasgow High Court charged with the murder of Brian Maley following a brutal attack that occurred on the 8th of February 2022.

The three accused attacked Maley using knives and chisels at his home address in Springburn. The court heard how the trio attended his home armed with a toolbox which contained the weapons used in the attack.

In addition, they have been found guilty of assaulting Mr Maley’s partner to her injury at the flat that morning.

Houston maintained the position that he never knew someone was going to be killed. He maintained the position that “If I knew that was going to happen, I would not have gone at all. Michael just said ‘go with me’ and I went.” He stated that he was an innocent bystander.

During sentencing, Lord Fairley told them they all set off that day with “the intention of doing harm” to Mr Maley.

Gardiner and Anderson sentenced to a minimum period of 18 years in prison. Houston was jailed for at least 18 and a half years as he had been on bail at the time.
