A former urology consultant admitted sending graphic pictures and messages to an undercover police officer he believed was a 14 year old child and also admitted to attempting to meet the child to engage in unlawful sexual behaviour. Mr Crooks, after entering his guilty pleas, was given a community payback order to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
He will also be supervised and placed on the sex offenders register. Sheriff Martin Jones QC stated when sentencing Mr Crooks: “Because of the serious nature of these offences, what I am about to impose is a direct alternative to custody. The offences you have pled guilty to are well passed the custody threshold.” Mr Crooks defence team stated that he was aware how serious his actions were and he only used chat rooms as an “escape from reality”.
