Mr McAuley is accused of murdering his 28-year-old friend. Mr McAuley has claimed that he acted in self defence when he attacked the Greenock man last year. The accused told the jury during evidence that he was afraid of the victim and he was acting erratic. He alleges that the victim had been drinking that day and he acted in self defence in the circumstances which resulted in his death. The trial is taking place at the High Court in Glasgow before Lord Mulholland.
