Mr Cairney who was convicted at the High Court in Glasgow for murdering Margaret Fleming has now lodged an intention to appeal against his conviction and sentence. He was sentenced to a minimum term of 14 years imprisonment. The note of appeal is due to be lodged by the middle of September. Co-accused, Ms Jones, who also received a 14 year prison term, has not yet lodged an intention to appeal. Both accused had no previous convictions prior to the murder conviction. The appeal can be abandoned at any point and could result in a longer minimum term for Mr Cairney. Both accused continue to deny the offence. Ms Fleming’s body has never been found despite numerous searches.
