Ms Brown, 60, has received a 30 month prison sentence after admitting embezzling over £125,000 at Dumfries Sheriff Court. Ms Brown admitted taking part in a scheme whereby she would withdraw money from a client who passed away, during the course of her employment, as well as taking part in other fraudulent activity during the course of her employment. Sheriff Mohan stated when sentencing Ms Brown: “A significant amount of money was taken from an individual under her care, leaving no money to pay for his funeral at his death. She also had exploited her trust and promotion at a charity organisation, leaving former colleagues to clear up the mess.” Ms Brown’s solicitor stated that she was very remorseful and did not like the person who she had become and that a gambling addiction was the cause of her crimes.
