Ms Carruthers was order to carry out 225 hours of unpaid work after she lied to the police that she was driving a car that killed a woman when it was in fact her boyfriend. Her boyfriend, Mr Anderson, has been jailed for six years. He was driving twice the speed limit when he killed Ms Dunn, 68. Mr Anderson was identified as the driver by CCTV and both Ms Carruthers and him admitted there offences in court last month.
Lord Uist told Anderson: “It was clear you thought you could behave as you liked, ignoring the road traffic laws.” He thereafter told Ms Carruthers: “My initial inclination had been to impose a significant period of detention.”However, as she is only 20 years old and has no previous convictions and currently works as a dental nurse, the Judge was of the view that a Community Payback order was more appropriate.
