Ramneek Sandhu, 23, avoided jail after pleading guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving following a crash in Glasgow’s Cowcaddens on June 30, 2022. Sandhu, a new driver, became distracted by noise from his passengers and turned around, failing to notice a stationary bus at a red light.

His BMW collided with the bus, causing the car to ignite and seriously injuring three of his four passengers, who suffered fractures, scars, and other injuries. Sandhu himself was also hurt in the crash. The court heard he had picked up points for speeding shortly after the incident. Instead of prison, Sheriff Tom Hughes placed him on a structured deferred sentence to monitor his rehabilitation.
