Dr. Muhammad Masood appealed against fitness to practice proceedings initiated by the General Medical Council after allegations of abuse by his ex-wife.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal found that he had committed both physical and emotional abuse and attempted to interfere with legal proceedings, which led to a decision for erasure from the medical register.
Despite rejecting 92% of the allegations, the Tribunal deemed the accepted misconduct serious enough to undermine the reputation of the profession.
In his appeal, Dr. Masood contended that the Tribunal had unfairly preferred his ex-wife’s evidence and that erasure was a disproportionate sanction. However, Lady Dorrian affirmed that the Tribunal had followed proper procedures, thoroughly examining the evidence and making reasoned decisions.
Ultimately, the court found no basis to interfere with the Tribunal’s ruling, and the appeal was refused.
