William McMahon, 47, and David McMahon, 41 appeared in court for the murder of Christopher McGee.
Christopher McGee was assaulted and died three days later in hospital on the 5th November 2021. The pair accused denied the murder charge that they were faced with when they appeared in the High Court in Glasgow. Despite this, the jury found them both guilty of murder after leaving the victim for dead after the attack.
David McMahon struck Mr McGee with a beer bottle across his right cheek and this knocked the victim out. As Mr McGee lay on the ground, William McMahon kicked him twice on the head. The assault was fatal.
Addressing the cousins, the judge noted that this was not a premediated attack on his part bur rather is was a disagreement fuelled by alcohol. Judge Lord Young said, ‘You showed no compassion or concern while he lay there.’ They continued, “I will sentence you on the basis that this was not a pre-planned attack but an alcohol-based disagreement.”
William McMahon was jailed for a minimum of 15 years and six months while David was sentenced to a minimum of 16 years.
This sentence was delivered based on considerations that both men expressed remorse over their actions.
