At the High Court in Glasgow on 7th August 2024, Lord Arthurson sentenced Colin Kennedy to life imprisonment for the murder of his partner, Catherine Stewart. Kennedy, 63, was found guilty by a jury and must serve a minimum of 25 years before being eligible for parole.
During sentencing, Lord Arthurson described the murder as a brutal and premeditated attack, driven by Kennedy’s anger. On July 4, 2021, Kennedy stabbed 54-year-old Stewart multiple times in her home, inflicting severe injuries, including fatal wounds to her chest and head. Despite her attempts to defend herself, Stewart ultimately died from her injuries, with the pathologist noting that she effectively drowned in her own blood.
Kennedy showed no remorse, and his actions were described as a “vile and cowardly act of malevolent butchery.” He was given the mandatory life sentence with a punishment part of 25 years before he can be illegible for parole.
