6 Years Imprisonment For Killing Motorcyclist After Taking Cocaine

A man has pled guilty to killing a 24 year old motorcyclist by dangerous driving after taking cocaine. Mr McLean has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment at the High Court in Edinburgh. He was also disqualified from driving for a 10 year period. Mr McLean it was heard was driving down the wrong side of the dual carriage way at Blantyre before he struck the 24 year old who died instantly. Judge, Lord Brodie, stated while sentencing Mr McLean that his sentence would have been nine and a half years if not for his guilty plea. He continued: “You drove when your ability to do so was impaired by a controlled drug, namely cocaine. His defence counsel has stated that: “There has never been any attempt on his part to justify his actions or to mitigate his actions.”
