Mr Boland attacked a fellow prisoner with boiling water after throwing water from a kettle over a fellow prisoner at HMP Low Moss. The victim was admitted to the Burns Unit for 5 days.
This attack occurred in July last year but Mr Boland has now admitted the attack this week at Glasgow Sheriff Court by pleading guilty to assault to permanent disfigurement.  The victim was left with noticeable burns to one side of his face and had to have plastic surgery.
Sheriff Scullion sentenced Mr Boland for 18 months and the Crown narrated that the victim was eating his lunch alone when he was attacked by the accused with no provocation. However, the defence solicitor for Mr Boland argued that in the weeks leading up to the attack his client was bullied by the victim however he accepted that a custodial sentence was the only appropriate sentence for his actions.
