Barry Smith a former serviceman who joined a motorbike gang has been jailed for eight years for attempting to murder a member of a rival group.

The accused carried out the attack in July 2021 and allegedly acted like a support driver for Satans Slaves, the group he belonged to. He was meant to help motorcyclists who have injured themselves or broken down.

However, Smith used his van to carry out an assault on the victim Andrew Lamb who was a member of the Tribe Motorcycle Club.

Prior to the incident witnesses had seen members of the two groups fighting on the road. The accused denied any wrongdoing but was convicted after a trial last month.

Judge Fiona Tait at the High Court in Edinburgh told the accused that she was of the view that a custodial sentence was the only disposal in the case and sentenced him to eight years in custody.
