Mr Jack Johnson, aged 32, raped one woman in 2021 and sexually assaulted another in 2017. Both occurred in the Shetland area.

Johnson denied any culpability at his trial in October 2023. Despite this, he was found guilty of both charges. The initial trial heard evidence o how his victim had told Johnson that he has raped her and he told her friend that she had been raped the next morning. In regards the charge of sexual assault, he admitted to being abusive towards her but denied allegations of sexual assault.

At the initial trial, sentencing was deferred.

Johnson appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh this week for his deferred sentence. In contrast to his initial position, he now was recognising his wrongdoing and admitted that he regretted his actions.

Defence for Johnson informed the court of this new found remote and stated that “He wants to apologise to the complainer because she had to give evidence.”

Lord Lake jailed Johnson for six years and placed him on the sex offenders register for life.
