Michael Porchetta was deemed unfit for trial after a preliminary hearing in March 2024, due to concerns about his mental cognition, supported by expert testimony.

He faced charges for the assault, murder, and attempted concealment of evidence related to Aimee Cannon’s death on May 7, 2022. Cannon’s body, found by her father, showed signs of a brutal attack with over 45 stab wounds, including defensive injuries.

DNA evidence and the discovery of Cannon’s phone and clothing in Porchetta’s possession further implicated him, along with his inconsistent statements and bloodstained jeans.

Despite no defence being presented, the Crown’s evidence, including forensic and circumstantial details, led Lord Mulholland to conclude that Porchetta was responsible for the murder, and he had attempted to cover up his actions.

The case was continued for psychiatric evaluation, though the murder was confirmed as the clear conclusion based on the evidence.
