High Court jury trials are set to begin in the Odeon cinema in Edinburgh as of the 28th of September 2020 in order to allow high court jury trials to recommence allowing for social distancing.
The Odeon cinema in Edinburgh will be the first remote jury centre in the UK. Remote high court jury trials are then set to commence in the cinema at Braehead shopping centre as of the 12th of October 2020. Jurors will be able to watch the court proceedings whilst they appear on screens in court.
This measure has been introduced to help combat the backlog of cases caused by coronavirus at the high court which is estimated to be around 750 cases by allowing 16 trials to run at one time.
