Mr Toner, who was a former teacher at a boarding school in Largs, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for grooming and abusing children at the school. He has also been placed on the sex offenders register and has to be monitored for two years after his release. The offences occurred in the 1980s.
The jury were told that victims did not speak of the abuse for 40 years before going to the police. Mr Toner pled not guilty to all of the charges but was convicted by a Jury at the High Court in Glasgow of 6 charges of sexual abuse. Judge Johnston told Mr Toner: “You present a danger of causing serious sexual harm to children.” Mr Toner has a legal team appealing his sentence currently.
