Mr Martin, an Ayrshire man, convicted of raping two school girls over 40 years ago has been jailed for 7 years. He will also remain on the sex offenders register for life.
The social worker who prepared the Social Work report to be made available to the Court described Mr Martin as “exceptionally callous”. However, Victoria Dow for the defence stated that he has continued to state his innocence to this crime and further added; “as a child he was subject to sexual abuse himself and that appears, on one view, to have set the wheels in motion.”
Lady Carmichael while sentencing Mr Martin at Livingston Sheriff Court spoke of the vulnerability of the victims and the fact Mr Martin had told them to be quiet. Lady Carmichael also acknowledged however that some of the offending had taken place when Martin was a child himself, with the earliest age on the indictment being 13.
