New figures have been released that show there has now been a 16 percent decrease in crime rates in Scotland. The study has also highlighted that the figures for alcohol related crimes has also decreased by around one quarter from a decade ago in the period of 2008/2009. This publication, published every year, is the Scottish Crime and Justice Survey. In Scotland now only 0.7 percent of people experienced more than one violent crime.
The Justice Secretary has stated: “Tackling alcohol-related harm has been a pivotal part of our pioneering public health approach to reducing violent crime over the last decade and it is heartening to see a fall in alcohol-related violence.” He continued, however, that he remained concerned about “repeat victimisation” and crime in the most deprived communities in Scotland. There is expected to be further publications including the figures for the number of serious assaults within Scotland very soon.
